Helicopter Services

Helicopter services from Chart-Air Aviation are provided throughout the UK and Europe. We supply smaller types for helicopter charter flights, weddings and VIP transportation, but also provide mounts for aerial photography and larger types for heavy lift jobs and humanitarian relief flights. The versatility of a helicopter makes it ideal for a range of different air charter flights, particularly when there is no airport nearby. Helicopter services include :

Helicopter Charter Services

All helicopter types are available for air charter flights, and they can (with the landowner's permission) land in most areas provided they are clear of obstructions. Helicopters are regularly used for weddings and air experience flights, and for stylish travel on special occasions such as anniversaries. Many hotels and upmarket country restaurants provide landing sites for the benefit of their guests, and for attending sporting events such as horse racing and F1 they are ideal for avoiding traffic jams and arriving fresh, relaxed and in style.

Heavy Lift Services

Helicopters available for heavy lift charter duties include the Aerospatiale Super Puma and its derivatives, and the ubiquitous MIL-8. Generally it is possible to lift loads of up to 3.5 tonnes using a cargo hook mounted beneath the helicopter fuselage, but because these larger types are contracted to the offshore oil industry charter availability is normally limited to weekends. Site surveys are undertaken before commencing any lifts and strict safety precautions are maintained. Typical examples of such tasks include lifting air conditioning equipment onto new buildings and of course "water bombing" to combat forest fires in drier parts of the world.

Aerial Photography

Any helicopter can be used for aerial photography and there are special gyroscopically stabilised camera mounts fitted to some helicopters especially for this purpose. Single-engined helicopters are more suited to charter tasks using hand-held cameras, twin-engined types like the Twin Squirrel provide a more stable platform and are preferred for video work.

Humanitarian Relief Flights

Helicopters are widely used for humanitarian relief flights following natural disasters, and delivering aid supplies to remote areas. The Russian-built MIL-8 is the most numerous helicopter type involved, it is a rugged machine and widely used for humanitarian relief and air charter flights in most parts of the world except western Europe, partly because of its lower operating cost and partly because of the large number available.
